802.11b/g VDSL2 Router
The increasing demand for high-bandwidth services presents both a challenge and an opportunity. Most efforts to increase bandwidth are focused on the last mile, as this is the main bottleneck in the distribution of data services to consumers. Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) technology was designed to meet the challenge of providing bandwidth for video on demand, high-definition TV, virtual private networks, on-line gaming, and other high-data-rate services through the telephone line, the medium with the highest penetration rate to consumers.

VDSL2 is not one but many steps forward in VDSL technology. The standard includes profiles for a wide variety of scenarios, from very long loops, where performance is similar to that of ADSL2+, to in-building or to-the-curb loops, where VDSL2 can achieve data rates up to 100 Mbps both downstream and upstream. VDSL2 profiles contain optimizations for all major regulatory domains, and the standard has QoS support built in, making VDSL2 the worldwide choice for triple-play services going forward.

The DR714 combines a VDSL2 modem, SOHO router, and four-port 10/100-Mbps Fast Ethernet switch in a single housing. Supporting downstream data rates up to 100 Mbps, upstream data rates up to 50 Mbps, and link distances up to 1500 meters (4921 feet), the DR714 is especially well suited for providing HDTV, voice, and data services in office buildings, apartment blocks, hotels, and schools.

Up to four computers can be connected directly to the switch, or dozens of computers can be connected through daisy-chained switches or hubs. The DR714 can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet, while its content filtering capability helps keep inappropriate Web pages from affecting productivity or offending family sensitivities. The DHCP server greatly simplifies network setup. The NAT server, DMZ function, and firewall protect the network against intrusion from the Internet. All features and functions can be configured easily through the embedded browser-based setup utility.

Among the options available for the DR714 are VPN endpoint, TR-069 remote management, and IEEE 802.11b/g/draft-n wireless networking capability.

Now that VDSL2 is here, providers can offer all the value-added services they have long dreamed of offering. Fast, flexible, user-friendly, and economical, the DR714 will add greatly to the value of any VDSL2 rollout.

Features and Benefits

  • Superb Performance
The DR714 supports VDSL2 profiles 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, 12a, 12b, and 17a. Working over the existing copper loop to the customer's premises, it can deliver up to 100 Mbps downstream and up to 50 Mbps upstream X more than enough for combined data, voice, and HDTV. Its practical range extends to 2400V3000 meters (8000V10,000 feet), where its performance is identical to that of ADSL2+. Wherever it is impractical to run optical fiber or Ethernet cable to customer premises, the DR714 is the ideal solution.

  • Co-existence with POTS and ISDN Phones
VDSL2 can co-exist with plain old telephone service (POTS) or ISDN. No extra wires are required. Traditional phone service and high-bandwidth data transmission can operate simultaneously.
  • ntegrated Four-port Fast Ethernet Switch
By automatically adjusting to the speed of each client and the polarity of the cable, the built-in 10/100-Mbps switch makes connecting multiple computers for Internet access economical and easy. Up to four computers can be connected directly to the switch, or dozens can be connected through hubs or additional switches.

  • User-friendly Setup and Management
A setup wizard is provided to make initial configuration quick and easy. An embedded browser-based configuration utility gives the user point-and-click control of all functions through an intuitive graphical user interface, and works with all widely-used Web browsers.
